A Record 830 Nonprofits Will Rally Donors During Big Day of Giving

Together with hundreds of local nonprofits, we hope to surpass $100 million raised since 2013.

Two weeks from today, a record 830 nonprofits in the capital area will rally generous people to support charitable causes during this year’s Big Day of Giving, our annual effort to strengthen the local nonprofit sector that has raised $91 million since 2013. This year, as the team behind Big Day of Giving, we hope to surpass $100 million in total funds raised since we launched the community-wide movement.

Starting today, community members interested in giving can donate gifts of $10 or more at bigdayofgiving.org, or they can wait until Big Day of Giving on Thursday, May 2, to support their favorite organizations.

Nonprofits serving El Dorado, Placer, Sacramento, and Yolo counties are participating. Each has a profile at bigdayofgiving.org, which features the ability to search and filter nonprofits by mission, location, budget size, their leadership demographics, and demographics served.

Gifts made on the Big Day of Giving website have the chance to be boosted by up to $100,000 in prizes furnished by Western Health Advantage, and match funds secured by participating nonprofits. In addition, donors who give with Golden 1 Credit Union debit or credit cards will have their donations boosted by a $100,000 proportional match from Golden 1 Credit Union.

“Big Day of Giving has been transformational for our region’s philanthropic sector,” said Kerry Wood, our chief executive. “We started Big Day of Giving because we saw the potential to grow philanthropic giving in the region — and, every year, it’s exciting to see generous people throughout our community show up to support the local causes they love. We’re excited to rally the community again on May 2!”

Last year, over 30,000 donors gave $13.8 million to 762 nonprofits through Big Day of Giving.

We organize Big Day of Giving with lead sponsorship from Western Health Advantage. In addition to running Big Day of Giving, we provide philanthropic solutions to help community members make charitable impact immediately or through their estates.
